Hello, you creatives! (See what I did there? Eh?)
I’m gonna throw an analogy out there for you tonight. You may or may not agree, but I spoke it earlier, so I figured I’d write it down. It’s pretty basic, so don’t get too excited.
I finished a video earlier today that I didn’t wanna show my friends yet because I hadn’t had the time to watch it enough for myself to know if it was ready to be viewed by anyone else.
Talking about it, I said, “It’s like a newborn baby that hasn’t been washed off yet. As the parent, you think it’s AWESOME, but you don’t wanna start passing it around until it’s clean.”
Kinda gross, I know (Side note: I always wonder where the hell they get the babies they use in TV birth scenes. Weird). But you feel, me, right?
Any new project that you spend a good amount of time on kinda becomes a metaphorical creative kid. You put so much into it, it becomes a part of you, and when it’s time to let it fly and see the world, you get worried. You want others to like it. You get self-conscious (which is toxic…shouldn’t worry about what others think). You want it to be seen, but you also want it to be GOOD.
It’s one of those feelings anytime I throw a piece of writing or design or video online. I write in a voice that’s like a dude with his chest out, ready to take on the world, but I still get that hesitation at the last second before I jump.
Who doesn’t?
I’ll post the video tomorrow.
D.
This is exactly how...or film project. With me though, once
