Got a couple. In order of when I got ‘em…”Clarity” on my shoulder. “2life” left arm, two squares left bicep (bottom one filled with a sunrise, top one empty), “Gravity” left tricep, and a half-sleeve scene with a clock tower/waves/tree on my right arm!
North Carolina born and raised! But it’s time for somewhere new. Heart’s in NYC. Hoping to get there soon…
Check it out, check it out.
It’s 2012.
Yep. Crazy, eh? Has it sunk in yet? Have you started dating your papers and checks blank/blank/12, or are you still signing everything blank/blank/11?
And how are those RESOLUTIONS coming? It’s the 19th, and I know the gym has filtered out a little bit. How bout for YOU?
I’ve already dropped a few of mine. Not to the point where I can’t pick them back up, but where I guess I haven’t started them yet.
The first one is to WRITE more this year. Don’t give me shit. I’m doing it now.
The second is to READ more. This will help with the above resolution. Reading, like music, is a way to leave the world for a lil while and explore and connect with emotions you don’t always remember you have. I haven’t read for fun enough in the recent past, and I’m ready to do it again. Right now, I’m halfway through Stephen King’s newest novel, “11/22/63,” and it’s flying. It’s about going back in time and preventing the Kennedy Assassination. Next up is Steve Jobs’ biography.
Third: CREATE more. Videos. Designs. Fun things. READING and WRITING more will lead to this (ahhh, yeah, Drew, they’re all connected! I see what you’re doing, sir!). I promise you videos all the time and I never finish them. Leading to my fourth resolution for 2012:
FINISH THINGS I START. I’ve got pages of ideas for short films and creative music videos. I’m shooting two different ones right now. Key word is FINISHING them. And FINISH my job search. I slacked in 2011. Now it’s time to step up and follow through. Time to FINISH and get a job other than freelancing. Yeah.
I’m sharing these to hold myself accountable. Now that they’re out there, you can call me out if I don’t follow through with ‘em.
There really IS something refreshing about the start of a new year. It’s freezing out, people go crazy on New Year’s Eve, and everybody plans for good things in the coming months, no matter how their previous year treated them.
I’ve thought about it a lot lately. We could always START a resolution in May or August, just like we could act like it’s CHRISTMAS all the time, but it’s easier to do it up on January 1 because we’re all in it TOGETHER. There are shared HOPES and DREAMS and CLEAN SLATES, and everybody sees the world half-full for a while.
Since a lot of us are still in that mode, let’s keep it up. Stick with your resolutions. Make ‘em last until it gets warm out. And if they slip, let somebody call you out for it. And if you see somebody slipping, call THEM out.
New year. Same life. Make it what you want it to be.
Drew.
